Free For All

Birth control should be provided free of charge and should be accessible to all women. For so long now health education in school has been about teaching abstinence however what they should be teaching is practicing safe sex. Part of practicing safe sex is protection and that includes some form of birth control and condoms. Now women should be able to afford birth control because it is something that will not only prevent pregnancy but it also decreases the change of ovarian cancer, cysts, and hormonal imbalances.
“Preventive Medicine focuses on the health of individuals, communities, and defined populations. Its goal is to protect, promote, and maintain health and well-being and to prevent disease, disability, and death”. Most health insurances will provide either free medication if it is considered a preventative medication such as heart medications, blood pressure medications, and birth control because it prevents pregnancy. It is crazy that some health insurances still have a copay or some kind of charge for birth control when it is something that helps prevent a woman from getting pregnant. My health insurance company just got rid of the copay and now it is free of charge for me but there are still woman out there who still have to pay for birth control and that’s just not right. The thing is birth control is not only something that helps prevent pregnancy but it also helps control the population and this should be something that the government should be concerned about.
The United States government needs to really take control on this issue. For too long the government has allowed religion to play a huge role in this because some religions believe that birth control is wrong and don’t believe women should take it. There is supposed to be a separation between church and state and the government needs to realize that they have the take a stand and it’s time to draw the line. Another thing the government should think about is how much cheaper it will be for the taxpayers to pay for birth control than to have to help pay for children through SNAP or WIC. At the end of the day we are in the twentieth century and the government needs to realize that and make some changes.

Hillary Clinton on Benghazi and her infamous email scandal...

On Friday October 16, 2015 Jeremy Diamond published an article for CNN called “Hillary Clinton dismisses Benghazi ‘conspiracy theories’ ”. Hillary Clinton has been under fire recently about her role in the Benghazi attack. However Clinton has shut down the rumors that there was a “conspiracy theory” about the attack. Diamond gives us some insight about how Clinton addressed everything that has been going on lately on the show “The Lead with Jake Tapper” on CNN. She talked about a wide range of topics from the democratic debate, her top rival Bernie Sanders, her republican rival Donald Trump, and whether Vice President Joe Biden joining the democratic race.
Hilary Clinton also talked about the Benghazi scandal and quoted that “I think it’s pretty clear that whatever they might’ve thought they were doing, they ended up becoming a partisan arm of the Republican National committee with an overwhelming focus on trying to –as they admitted – drive down my poll numbers”.  This is definitely a bold statement coming from Hilary Clinton and she is shutting down ay Benghazi rumors still floating around. At the end of the interview Jake Tapper brings up the infamous email scandal which quite frankly is getting old. She again states that nothing she sent was marked classified.
Also Diamond informs us on Hilary Clinton’s thoughts towards her republican rival Donald Trump and a possible running of Vice President Joe Biden. All Hilary Clinton really had to say about Donald Trump is that he continues to go beyond the bounds of what should and shouldn’t be said about other opponents. Trump in her eyes doesn’t say things that are appropriate. Now onto what she had to say about Joe Biden possibly running. To sum it up she didn’t say much except he needs to decide whether or not he is going to run because he does need to think about timing.
The author of the article Jeremy Diamond who started out at GW Hatchet which was an independent student newspaper of the George Washington University. He actually had a national news story there after he discovered that the university officials misrepresented the schools financial aid policy. He won the Institute on Political Journalism Collegiate Journalism Award and a Pinnacle Award from the College Media Association. He definitely has the credentials to be a reporter and has many accomplishments to back up his work.

"Guns Don't Kill People; People Kill People" Or Do They?

On October 2, 2015 David Greenwood wrote an article for Huffington Post. The article is titled “A Dad’s Reply to the ‘Guns Don’t Kill People’ Lie” which is about the recent mass shooting in Oregon. David Greenwood graduated Emerson College with an MFA and is an English professor at Tufts University. Greenwood’s intended audience is anyone in the United States who has a problem with the mass shootings and gun control laws. He is specifically targeting the “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people” believers. His argument is that yes guns cannot shot themselves and yes a person does kill someone but the U.S. seems to not take stricter precautions on how someone gets a gun. Also Greenwood wants people to take action for what they believe in and instead of just writing about this topic he took action by writing a letter to congress about universalizing and enforcing background checks for gun ownership as well as increasing funding for mental health treatment. Greenwood lists five things that can help fix the problem of mass shootings. His solutions to stop all of these mass shootings are; sharing your concerns with your senators and representatives, become active in gun safety education, advocate for a better mental health care policies and coverage, and supporting community health models for violence prevention. I think this article is really interesting and unique because Greenwood doesn’t just state that his opinion is the only correct opinion but he lets the readers know that whatever stance you have on gun’s you need to take action for what you believe in. He also does this by showing which side of the topic he is on and gives his reasons and logic for why he believes that but allows room to consider what the other side’s arguments are. Overall I don’t completely agree with everything Greenwood states but I think it’s a great article.
