Melting Pot No More

One of the most controversial topics right is if The United States of America should allow refugees. We are known as “land of the free” so why are we going to deny people the right to come here just because they are from Syria? America was started off immigration and we are a melting pot of people from all over the world. It is wrong to deny someone the chance to come here. In fact, all of these governors should be looking at the images of the refugees and what they have to go through. How could someone be okay with themselves for letting innocent lives be taken? The thought of innocent children, women, and men being killed makes me sick to my stomach. Technically the states can’t not allow the refugees to come here.
The governors and government officials definitely need to step it up and state helping the Syrian refugees. All of the counties need to come together to help each other out. The United Nations was created to help ensure peace and a mutual understanding between the counties. Therefore we need to come together to help the Syria refugees find a safe place to live their lives. The governors are trying to say that if they allow refugees into their state that they are basically letting terrorist walk right in their front door. Excuse my French but that is bullshit, that is an excuse that they are using. The Syrian refugees are just as afraid of ISIS as everyone else in the world, yet we seem to not care about that.

Women of the United States Need to Step Up

On Friday October 30, 2015 Juliane Johannsen wrote an article called “The role of the woman in the U.S national government” in her blog Juliane Johannsen Where are We heading?. She did a great job at presenting the facts right away and getting straight to her thoughts on this issue. I think it is very important for someone to not beat around the bush in their article and make sure that they have a strong opening stance. Also the facts that Johannsen had presented in her article were very shocking and the fact that there isn’t even a diverse woman representation in the government is sad. The fact that the U.S is ranked 76 out of 148 is crazy we are supposed to be the land of possibilities yet it still seems like you have to be a man to get what you want. It too also raised the question on why the U.S. was in such a low position for having women in the national government. I completely agree with Juliane Johannsen’s argument and she did a great job at supporting her argument. The sentence that stuck out the most to me in her blog post was the very last sentence, “With Hillary Clinton campaigning as the next president of the United States of America, the political role of the woman might change in the future”. This shows that even though the statics and numbers are low there is still hope for the women in America to one day be in the national government and to me having hope is the most important thing. Juliane Johannsen has the perfect opening and ending to this post.
